Cattle advisory services on equal terms, tailored to your herd

Professional advice based on animals, data and finances

Would you like professional cattle advisory services based on the conditions on your farm?

At Vestjyske Dyrlæger, you receive personal advice from an experienced veterinarian. From our practice in Nørre Nebel, we visit cattle herds around Ølgodt, Grindsted, Skjern, Varde and the surrounding areas.

We provide advice for beef calves, dairy cattle and suckler cattle. Our cattle advisory services are tailored to the herd’s size, production system, results and objectives. You therefore receive an agreement that focuses on the areas relevant to your specific herd.

Advice tailored to the herd’s needs

An advisory agreement may include a fixed number of visits spread throughout the year. This makes it possible to monitor progress and adjust efforts when changes occur in the herd.

Standard herd health advice may include, among other things:

  • Regular visits and two annual welfare visits
  • Review of biosecurity and medicine use
  • Follow-up on the animals’ health, welfare and production

We believe the best cattle advisory services take place through dialogue in the barn. Here we can look at the animals, workflows and practical conditions. The observations are combined with the herd’s data and financial results, making the advice specific and actionable.

Action plans for specific challenges

If particular challenges arise in the herd, we can help develop a targeted action plan. The plan describes which measures should be implemented, who is responsible, and how follow-up should be carried out.

This may be relevant, for example, in cases of:

  • Eradication of Salmonella Dublin
  • Problems with hooves, udder health or biosecurity
  • Need for health-economic analyses

In cases of challenges with many repeat breeders, a low pregnancy rate or other reproductive problems, the cattle advisory services can be supplemented with targeted reproduction support. We review relevant key figures, examine selected cows and assess the herd’s daily routines.

Health economics and interdisciplinary collaboration

Animal health and finances are often closely linked. Disease, high mortality or inefficient workflows can affect both animal welfare and the farm’s results. Therefore, you can receive help with health-economic analyses and financial advice for farms, based on specific data from the herd.

We can also enter into interdisciplinary collaboration with your agricultural consultant, feeding adviser and other relevant partners. This can be an advantage when health, feeding, production and finances affect one another.

The collaboration may also include participation in advisory committees, advisory boards and farm councils. The purpose is to bring together the relevant expertise around the goals and challenges that matter most to the farm.

Animal welfare and staff training

Work on cattle welfare includes, among other things, housing, hygiene, medicine use and the animals’ opportunity to express natural behaviour. During visits, we assess conditions in the barn and help translate observations into concrete measures.

In addition to veterinary advice, we can help with continuing training for the farm’s staff. This may include, for example, medicine handling courses or training in the treatment and prevention of milk fever.

Training staff can help create more consistent routines and ensure that agreed action plans are applied in day-to-day work.

Continuity in the collaboration

We strive to assign two veterinarians to each herd. This provides strong familiarity with the animals, the staff and the farm’s objectives. At the same time, it ensures full coverage during holidays, illness and parental leave.

This ensures continuity in ongoing cattle advisory services, also during holidays, illness and parental leave. Both veterinarians can follow up on agreements and continue the work based on the same action plan.
